Web 2.0 Predictions for 2011
Web 2.0 Predictions of 2011
So here is our predictions for 2011!
2010 was a great year for Social Media and we see this trend growing so much more in 2011. But it will be different in a few ways. How you say will it be different? First Social Media will be even more mainstream in our lives. Information you need, products you want to buy, reviews you need to have, will all be done within your own personal network, your social media friends and followers. This will give you a great resource to use at the very tip of your finger. With convergence of all kinds going on, TV and Internet, etc. Your social media contacts will become more valuable to you then ever before. You will search for items within your friend/follower network and less in Google. Facebook will gain dominance in Internet Search.
The next major move, is mobile!! With the growth of social media and alike (Twitter) , the need to be able to access your network is extremely important. Having the ability to search the internet on the fly from your phone will greatly improve personal and business productivity. And now QR Codes coming of age, your mobile device will be highly important to you. Almost as important as your car. That may sound extreme, but have you ever left your phone home? How did that feel, see what I mean.
So where will all of this play out you ask? It’s all going local! Local will be the biggest migration from days passed. The more things change the more they stay the same. Why? People don’t really change and their likes and dislikes will always be the same. People like the convenience of buying online. They also like to “feel” and touch the items first too. So “local search” will be important for small business to understand and take advantage of the large social networks. To give you an example of how this may work. Let’s say I need to take a trip or go on vacation to a city I know nothing about. I go to my Social Network of friends and followers. Ask for recommendation of hotels and restaurants, places to visit etc. While traveling I get a text message of the current weather and traffic report of the city I’m going to. Cool!
Once there, I check-in (Foursquare) with my mobile phone to say I’m in the city. Now I can meet up with my Social Media Friends/family and alike. Use my GPS on my phone to locate the hotel and restaurants that was recommended. This is really just the tip of the iceberg, so many scenarios to consider.
So what do you do next on this first day of 2011? Build your social media network! Do your research on a good mobile phone/device. Stay connected locally too. Small Businesses have an open-mind to all of the opportunities you now have.
Who will be the winners and losers of 2011? Time will tell for sure. The Winners will be the people/small business owners who connect with Social Media and learn more about “ Local Search”. The losers will be those who don’t want to change and keep doing the same things in their lives/businesses. Whether we like it or not things will be different in 2011.
